Welcome, this is where you will find the latest updates about everything new going on, with me, RAFE ADDISON.

Odd Rocks

What is considered Odd Rock? Well, some people may say it means, music that sounds weird but the person is normal. Or, the music is "different" but the person is weird. Maybe, all of it is weird, and I love it!

So that's what I'm going to talk about today! Not only will you learn about songs that inspired me, but you might be inspired as well. So, welcome to the Rafe Addison Vault of Bands you might or might not have heard of.

LET'S GO!

Now... I'm sure you've heard of Modest Mouse, but for those who haven't heard of them, here's my review. Modest Mouse is like, if a pirate ship was a band, which is awesome to say, I have never described a band like that but there you go.

I love their sense of phrasing and how they blend lyrics with hard rock vibes mixed with alt rock hammer guitar. On the other hand, they also have a soft side, when guitarist Johnny Marr plays beautiful licks with an almost longing sound.

I highly recommend this album for new listeners. Then after that, I also recommend the album 'Good News for People Who Love Bad News' also, by Modest Mouse.

Another one of my personal favorites, Dinosaur Jr. I think this band produces one of those forgotten feels of music that doesn't get played all that much, but now is slowly making its way back into music. Dinosaur Jr adds splashes of different styles in their music, but anchors a cutting sound that breaks though a lot in his tracks.

Now, I'm sure you remember the "Shooting Star Meme" that was going around on the internet. Okay, these are the guy's that made that song. 'Shooting Star' is not the only good song they've got, there is a whole album that's worth a listen. The band, 'Bag Raiders' have a bit of funk that is infectious. I'll be the one to say it, they have a fresh and cool feel to their music that will make you get up and dance, for sure.

Before I started my Youtube Channel, I was digging for new music, it was in doing so that I came across 'Parks Squares And Alleys'. I'm a sucker for one man bands, and if you give him a listen, I think your cares will go away, fast!

I highly recommend this single 'We're Not Just Friends' because I think it's bug that bites you, then you'll be hooked...I promise!

Now....you don't want to lose sight of the simple things in life, and let me tell you, Benji Hughes has the simple things locked down. I have been a fan of Benji for a long time, my dad played one album by the name of 'A Love Extreme' and I will not go any further with it. If you're a fan of Benji Hughes, you'll know what I'm talking about, but if you haven't heard him, stop reading and go listen!

When I was little, there were a lot of bands coming onto the scene that I never got to hear properly, for obvious reasons. Now that I'm kind of an adult, I went back in a time machine to 2006 and found this band by the name of 'Annuals' and in doing so, it sparked a journey to hunt for more music that I've missed in the passing years. Living in the present time is overrated, so I stayed in 2006 and I'm not coming out, unless I keep going backward!

They have the sound of a folk band, the voice of a punk rock band all mixed up together in a big ol' bowl of what are called the Annuals!

The album "Be He Me" has a very somber mood in the beginning, the song 'Brother', gives you a "making up for lost time" feel that quickly turns into a marching sound of power that hits you with a big chorus you will never forget. I highly recommend you listen!

This is a band from when I wasn't even born, like many, and they Rock! Feeder formed around 1994 and is still around, as of the late 2000's. The band has a blend of some of my favorite artists from that time, like: Alien Ant Farm, Taproot, Hoobastank, Coheed and Cambria and probably more, but still find a way to drill into my brain with hooks and choruses all their own, that you never forget.

"Comfort In Sound" is a superb album that shows a weightlessness to the band, and gives the listeners a calm rock and hard rock vibe, all in one go. Be sure to listen to the song "Just The Way I'm Feeling" a perfect start if you're new to Feeder.

Everyday,  I try to write a song. Every now and then, a word will ring my ears that I really like, and I'll try to put it in a song. It could be a chorus, a verse or just a lyric that I try to fit somewhere in the process. There are many underrated songwriters out there, and I think Duncan Sheik is one of them. I think being a songwriters isn't how good you can write a song, but how you use words to convey, not only emotion, but how those words give meaning to life.

Duncan Sheik deals with a lot of hard emotions and issues like relationships, grief, sadness, depression, and how big the world really is, but shows that there's light in everything and you just need to try and see it.

'Daylight' is a perfect example of his songwriting, and also his ear for hooks hidden in words and sayings. songs like 'On A High' gives a range of feelings and depth. When I hear it, I instantly wanna write a song. Give it a listen an let me know what you think.

Ok hear me out.....this album made me cry a freaking river, the sheer emotions are bursting!

Just Kidding [:

Hope you enjoyed this deep dive into the music that inspired me to be the artist that I am, so far. I really hope it inspired you to break out of your comfort zone and hear new music, revisit this music, write a song, or pick up an instrument and just play!

Things That Make Me Laugh

There are lots of things that make people laugh; jokes, stand-up comedy, and comedy movies. All of that makes me laugh, too, but the things that REALLY MAKE ME LAUGH are the oddly funny things.

I'm a HUGE fan of Tim and Eric and the characters they come up with, like my personal favorite, Dr. Steve Brule.

There's something about the confidence of Dr.Steve Brule, the way he speaks and carries himself in situations. If you haven't seen this man, or are a fan of Steve, you'll know what I'm talking about. I myself have watched many videos of Dr. Steve Brule hours and hours on end, I'm not even joking about that it's true, when I could be doing something more productive, I'm watching the Brule.

His series is called Check It Out with Dr. Steve Brule. Now... reading this you're probably thinking, WOW you are weirder than I thought, or you're probably thinking, Rafe, you are Awesome! Tell me more! Either way, thank you.

...and also, some of my favorite comedians like; Norm Macdonald, Kevin Nealon and Jeff Ross, just to name a few. Oddly enough, deadpan is what I find myself gravitating to most of the time cause those are just the jokes I make when I'm out and about or with family and friends. Not everyone likes this kind of comedy and that's ok, but to those who do like it, and share it with each other by word of mouth or by sharing a love for comedy, makes me happy and will never stop making me laugh.

Hope you liked this peek into what makes me laugh. Let me know what you like or what makes you laugh.

The Journey To The New Album

To those of you that have been with me from the very beginning, you all have empowered and motivated me to keep going on this journey, and I thank you. None of us can fulfill our dreams alone, so having you all to connect with really does make all the difference, especially when the need arises for validation and encouragement to push through the roadblocks. I hope you'll continue to stick around for what's next for this leg of my musical escapades.

I've been away from my YouTube Channel, for a while now, and with good reason. I've always tried to play to my strengths while taking my channel in directions that suit who I am. I love comedy, I love music, and naturally I gravitated to those interests. It's been really fun, and necessary, for me to go on that path to arrive where I am, now. Where am I? Well, I don't need to tell you about the crazy changes that have affected us all during the Covid-19 Lockdown and our gradual return to "normalcy". Whatever that may look like to you, but I will say that, I discovered some things about myself.

What did I learn about myself? I discovered that I love writing songs. Yes, I have been writing songs, but I've tested myself and found that I REALLY like writing songs! These songs gradually became more serious over time, but in the best way, for me. Not only did I find a passion for writing them... I played them... I learned more instruments... mixed my own songs, and mastered them. Am I proud of it? Yes! I made an album! I've never been so eager to share this music! This has all been a leap for me, but I believe this is where I belong at this moment in time.

So, if you are asking when you can hear something from it, the answer is...TODAY!

Enter you email for a FREE DOWNLOAD of the song 'Loose' from the upcoming debut album 'Unsettling Delight' by Rafe Addison.
